For as long as I can remember, dancing has always been a part of my life. My parents enrolled me in multiple styles of dance classes, from jazz to tap, hip-hop, and even indroductory pointe ballet. I loved the rush of hearing the cheers of an audience, wearing different costumes, and manifesting a different stage persona for each act and song. However, I felt that there was more in the world of dance for me to explore, a place where I could truly find myself that I hadn't quite reached yet.
When I was a freshman in high school, I was watching America's Next Top Model, and the world famous burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese starred as a guest. It was the first time where I realized that it was OK for women to express their sensuality, and that it's something to be celebrated. A short while later I discovered the pole dance of Jenyne Butterfly, and with those two inspirational sources I was determined to make my way into the world of pole dance, burlesque, or even both somehow.
As soon as I turned 18, I took my very first class at Vertical Fitness with Valerie Rush. In time, I developed strength in a way I once thought was impossible, while simultaneously learning how to be unashamed and proud of my body and all it's potential.
Fast forward a few years later and I am now an instructor at Vertical Fitness! It constantly blows my mind that this is my life. I'm so grateful to see that my dreams as a young teenager which I thought would be nothing more than dreams, are now my every day. I currently perform with multiple dance and theatrical troupes in the area, and specialize in a unique Polesque class, which combines the classical art of burlesque with the sensual roots of pole dance. Cultivating a safe space for others is, and always will be my top priority. It is crucial for me to emphasize that the studio as a whole and my class is one that is free of shame, judgement, or self- doubt. Rather, I teach students that regardless of age, gender, size, or skin color that it is their right to love, admire, and celebrate their bodies.
If you're looking for a safe, inclusive, body positive environment to gain confidence and strength, come to Vertical Fitness! I can't wait to meet you!
